Road conditions — summer and winter

The A40 motorway is a modern dual-carriageway, rarely congested outside the Christmas week and French February school holidays. In winter, the road is treated daily and our chauffeurs are equipped for all conditions with certified M+S 3PMSF winter tyres and chains on board. In heavy snowfall, transit can extend to 1h45–2h00; we adjust your Geneva departure accordingly to meet your arrival window.

For late-night or pre-dawn arrivals via the private aviation terminal (FBO) at Geneva Airport, we can position the vehicle at Chamonix the evening before where useful. For high-season return transfers to Geneva (end of Christmas holidays, February school-holiday Sundays), we recommend departing 30 minutes earlier than standard calculations.

Alpine chauffeurs and vehicle equipment

All our chauffeurs covering Chamonix transfers hold the Swiss professional transport licence, have a minimum of five years of experience, and complete internal alpine-winter driving training. French fluent, professional English; German, Italian, Spanish and Arabic available on request for international families. For private chalets, our chauffeurs use GPS provided by the owner or rental agency, with access instructions pre-loaded the evening before the transfer. We also handle the Chamonix ↔ Courmayeur connection via the Mont Blanc tunnel (30 min) with tunnel toll included in the flat rate on request.

How long is Geneva to Chamonix by chauffeur?

Approximately 1h15 in normal conditions, 88 km via Cluses and the A40 autoroute. The route is the same year-round, with the final climb to Chamonix town centre well-maintained. In peak ski weeks, allow 1h30 to account for the descent into the Chamonix valley.

For mountain chalets above the village, please confirm winter access at booking — some upper roads require 4×4 routing.

Can you continue to Courmayeur via Mont Blanc Tunnel?

Yes — Chamonix to Courmayeur via the Mont Blanc Tunnel is 25 minutes once Chamonix is reached. The tunnel toll (currently EUR 50 single one-way for cars, more for vans/Sprinter) is included if quoted as a Geneva–Courmayeur transfer; if added mid-trip, billed at cost. We hold transponder for tunnel quick-pass.
